Celeste Ribeiro and her daughter Sofia Soares Ribeiro come from a family of farmers settled in the North of Portugal whose activity in farming goes back to the 40s. In 2015 mother and daughter decided to lay their bet on producing pomegrenates in “Herdade da Pacheca” , a piece of land located in Santa Vitória do Ameixial – Estremoz.
Their decision to move South comes from the novelty of growing this fruit in this specific area – where the olive grove and the vineyard dominate – and from considering that it embodies the ideal assets to growing the pomegrenate.
The first pomegranate harvest in Herdade da Pacheca occurred in September 2017. The fruit was harvested by a group of twelve local workers who carefully cut it one by one; then it was immediatly sent to several selling spots. The fruit displayed fantastic characteristics regarding its colour both in the inside and in the outside; its sweetness, its balanced acidity and its small and smooth seed.
In 2017 we got our first reward for our investment in Estremoz which once again made made us believe that our our bet on growing pomegranates in the beautiful, interior Alentejo was right.
The SMITH POMEGRENATE (Angel Red) is a variety protected by royalties and whose production is limited. It was discovered and registered by Greg Smith, a third generation Californian farmer. Its exclusive characteristics have granted it a patented variety.
